Basically differences are:
Pro5R Oiled is 5-layers of progressively finer mesh oiled cotton gauze which offers maximum airflow. This media is ideal for those who drive mostly on paved street and highway who want maximum horsepower. Oiled is also ideal for those who do a lot of unpaved, off-road driving in severe dusty and dirty environments where protection is more important than maximum horsepower, because it can be cleaned.

ProDryS is a 3-layer progressively finer porosity synthetic non-woven media, which is oil-free and offers maximum convenience since it does not require re-oiling. This media is ideal for those who don’t want the hassle of re-oiling a filter.

The air temperature is not the issue, the amount of Dust in your environment really makes the choice for you.

A: I checked with aFe and yes, this intake will work on your 3.0L 528i. It is available in two version, oil and dry.

The AFE Pro Dry S has an Off-White Air Filter and allows for 50% air flow over stock and provides 99.2% filtration. The AFE Pro 5 R (oiled) uses a Blue Air FIlter and allows for 75% air flow over stock and provides 98.6% filtration.

Most leave parts like ECU tunes and intakes on for basic oil changes and service but we suggest removing any modifications prior to making a warranty claim. This is to ensure they are not causing the problem and to make things easier for your technician who may not be familiar with how to properly remove and reinstall your modified parts. Before going in we also suggest reading/deleting the hidden DME codes using the JB4 built in code reading/deleting, a CAN Tool, or a BT Cable. JB4 users should always set the tune to map 0 / pass through mode before going in to avoid it interfering with external diagnostic equipment.
